Epsom salt, also known as magnesium sulfate, is a mineral compound that has been used for many years to soothe sore muscles, alleviate stress, and improve sleep. While some people claim that Epsom salt can be absorbed through the skin, there is limited scientific evidence to support this.  The skin is a natural barrier that protects the body from external factors, including toxins and bacteria. While some substances can penetrate the skin, they must be able to pass through the outermost layer of the skin, called the stratum corneum, which is designed to prevent the entry of most substances.

There is some evidence to suggest that Epsom salt can be absorbed through the skin, but the extent to which this occurs is still unclear. Some studies have shown that magnesium can be absorbed through the skin, but the absorption rate is relatively low compared to other forms of magnesium supplementation, such as oral supplements.  Overall, while Epsom salt baths can be relaxing and may have some benefits for the skin, it is unlikely that significant amounts of magnesium sulfate are absorbed through the skin.
